Every business has it's own gym floor...

It's not like I visit too many school gyms, but when I do, do you know the first thing I do?

I look at the floors – and if you think that’s odd, you’re not wrong!

Now it is honestly the first thing I do, and then I make a mental note of it – sometimes even snapping a picture. If you're wondering why I would do that and what this has to do with being a VA, hang with me for a second.

I’m approaching 4 years working with a really cool company - GameDay Sport Services. Candice and her husband Ryan work in school and recreation center gyms. Candice and Ryan are truly great at what they do, and it shows in their projects. Not only do they do maintenance and refinish gym floors, but they also install bleachers, basketball equipment and so much more. My role? I handle client inquiries, preparing quotes, sending invoices and completing other administrative tasks so that Candice and Ryan can do what they do best.

Working with GameDay has taught me so much about an industry I never knew existed. There are many moving parts and coordination that needs to happen when it comes to ensuring gym floors look fantastic and function properly. The logos on the floor? Those are hand painted using special stencils, not stickers thrown down! Any details you see on gym floors - lettering, wide borders, stained or painted basketball keys - those are all thoughtful details worked out with the school or recreation center. Gyms are the heart of many schools and making sure they look good goes beyond just aesthetic reasons.

When I first started working with GameDay, I knew nothing about gym floors. But I knew how to organize processes, manage client communications, and handle administrative tasks. While I’m still far from an expert on gym floors, I’ve gained valuable knowledge and that comes from caring about my client and the work they do. I’m grateful to work with clients who are patient teachers and who appreciate curiosity. When I don't know the answer to a client inquiry, I am able to get the customer answers they need because my clients have created an environment where I feel comfortable learning. And as I continue to learn, I’m able to answer more and more questions on my own.
